At Bright Leaf Therapy and Assessment, we use empirically-based therapeutic interventions in order to ensure positive changes. Cognitive and behavior-based therapies are used. In particular, Social Thinking Methodology is used in working with children and adults who are experiencing social/communication difficulties. The Social Thinking Methodology is also used in treating children with ADHD, Oppositional Defiance, learning differences, anxiety disorders, and with emotional dysregulation issues. This methodology was develop by Michelle Garcia-Winner, a speech pathologist, who based her interventions on research focusing on developing social skills, perspective taking, social awareness, self-regulation, and comprehension. (See Recommended Links for articles and Social Thinking website). Additionally, a family system approach is also used during the therapeutic process in which parents are involved in the treatment of their child, including learning positive parenting techniques.
